Laid up in bed so missed my deadline for yesterday!!  But here it is, the dawn of a new age ………..

Robot Hope

Kirobo is sent,
friend for Kochi Wataka,
alone up in space.
On earth twin Mirata says
“it’s one small step for robots”.

We first met Robby
on the Forbidden Planet;
then Silent Running
Huey, Dewey and Louie.
Saw Star Wars, C3P0.

Enter the androids.
Alien Ash, Bishop, Call.
Prometheus next,
the obsequious David.
Creepy company sci-clones.

Kirobo is sent.
Science fact and fiction meet.
Companions in space.
On earth twin Mirata says
“Giant leap for robot-kind”.

I, Kirobo, robot hope.

3rd August 2013 – headline from the BBC

Notes:  “Kirobo is world’s first talking robot sent into space.”  Japan has launched the world’s first talking robot into space to serve as companion to astronaut Kochi Wakata who will begin his mission in November.  Measuring 34cm (13 inches), Kirobo is due to arrive at the International Space Station (ISS) on 9 August.  It is part of a study to see how machines can lend emotional support to people isolated over long periods.  Kirobo’s name derives from the Japanese words for “hope” and “robot”.  Kirobo has a twin robot on Earth called Mirata, which will monitor any problems its electronic counterpart may experience in space.
