Australian prime minister, Julia Gillard, ousted

He Waits For Years

He waits for years to mete out hate,
to twist the knife and contemplate
the downfall of his female boss.
Julia Gillard counts the cost
of being leader of the State.

Rudd bides his time, he watches, waits.
He plots and snipes, she hesitates.
He challenges, the line is crossed.
He waits for years.

She’s lost support he calculates.
He’s pushing at an open gate.
The die is cast, the coin is tossed.
Revenge may be his party’s loss
It’s time to seal his leader’s fate.
He waits for years.

26th June 2013 – headline from BBC

Notes:  Kevin Rudd ousts Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard.”  Kevin Rudd has ousted Prime Minister Julia Gillard as leader of Australia’s Labor Party, winning by 57 votes to 45 in a leadership ballot.  The change comes ahead of a general election due in September, which polls suggest Labor is set to lose.  Kevin Rudd has exacted revenge on Julia Gillard, his one-time friend and deputy who ruthlessly deposed him in 2010. Ever since he was removed from the prime minister’s office, he has sought to destabilise her leadership.  This has been a very personal feud and is the latest twist in a long and bitter rivalry between the two politicians – but it could be the last as Ms Gillard has said she will now leave politics.  She added:   “What I am absolutely confident of is it will be easier for the next woman and the woman after that and the woman after that, and I’m proud of that.”
